Passive Safety

Sometimes even all the active safety elements in a ŠKODA vehicle cannot help you to avoid an accident.

Sometimes even all the active safety elements in a ŠKODA vehicle cannot help you to avoid an accident. In such cases, a range of passive safety elements will come to your aid. Their purpose is to muffle or redirect the impact in such a way so as to minimise the risk of injury in the cabin and to prevent the passengers from striking against the vehicle’s hard components.

The most important element of a car’s passive safety is the structure itself which makes use of computer designed crumple zones. Whereas the cabin is manufactured from the hardest possible materials in order to provide the passengers with maximum protection, the front and rear sections of the vehicle easily crumple in order to absorb the energy of the impact.

Every model passes the independent Euro NCAP impact tests.

ŠKODA cars achieve the maximum possible 5 stars also in the new, more demanding assessment of the Euro NCAP test. In addition to protecting adult passengers, the degree of protection of children inside the car and the protection of pedestrians had a large share in the overall assessment.

However, the protection of the passengers against striking the vehicle’s hard components is no less important. That is why all ŠKODA vehicles are not only equipped with seat belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners, but also with airbags. We install front airbags for both the driver and passenger in all our models as a standard feature, while some models can be equipped with up to nine airbags including side, head and knee airbags for the driver. The smallest Citigo model is equipped with side head-thorax airbags, which use their extended profile to protect the driver’s head.

And yet every parent will insist that the top priority is to protect the smallest passengers whom standard safety belts cannot help. In all ŠKODA models, you will find attachment points for children’s car seats using the Isofix system, which enables the easy installation of car seats while ensuring that they are firmly fixed to the vehicle’s body. What is more, they are supplemented with Isofix frames or TopTether clasps in the vehicle’s luggage area, thereby limiting the rotation of the car seats and slowing the child’s forward motion in the case of an accident.
